Perceiving

Sometimes, children playing hide-and-seek will simply cover their faces with their hands. They aren’t yet aware that the world doesn’t work that way—that simply closing their eyes won’t stop what’s watching them from seeing them. We smile at these moments, yet as adults, we often repeat the same action. We act as if something ceases to exist just because we can’t see it.

When was the last time you looked deep into the ground beneath your feet? It’s an underground world teeming with life, a world we often forget.
