Global computer network failures are having an increasing impact on our daily lives. Remember the last time you couldn’t log in to social media, or when you were unable to get cash from an ATM? These stories hit home because we are participants in these systems and benefit from them.

The same is true for the natural world: we are its participants, not just passive observers.

We don’t know exactly what moment we are in. Will the strain on a few more elements still not affect our functioning? Or will the next one be the critical change that touches every single one of us?
