What first catches your eye? It’s likely the opening in the tree trunk. The hole appears to be a defect, an absence, a mistake. But you only see it because of the wood that surrounds it. Where there is no wood, an empty space yawns open.

Yet what we perceive as an empty space has become a home for many of the forest’s tiniest inhabitants!

It’s astonishing that we relentlessly search for life in space, yet fail to notice the countless manifestations of life right within our reach.
